Our Creative Political Activism

The Flip Project targets key, competitive US Senate races in order to help win and now strengthen a Democratic majority. We always coordinate with local groups and complement their efforts. In 2020 we worked on the Maine senate election, then headed to the Georgia runoff supporting Warnock and Ossoff. Now it’s 2022 and we’re back in Georgia for another runoff. Why support more TV ads when you could support a lean, dedicated, experienced, grassroots team?

What we do

We are canvassers who have discovered that singing doubles the number of voters coming to the door), organizers of spectacular events, and publicists of free Uber and other free rides to the polls.

We reach voters via signs at bus stops, bulletin boards at laundromats, business cards at pawn shops and taquerias and convenience stores, and so much more.

In 2020/2021 we translated and distributed voting materials for the Georgia Senate runoffs into over a dozen languages, making voting more accessible to people who speak English as a 2nd (or 3rd, or 4th) language. We work to support voter registration, design eye-catching and unconventional GOTV efforts, support ballot curing, and much more.

Why this GA runoff?

In 2020/2021 the Flip Project helped shift the Senate makeup to a 50/50 split – check out our Georgia Impact report here for more details of our approach.

In the 2022 midterms Democrats have won 50 Senate seats and retain control.  However it is still vital to reelect Sen Warnock in Georgia’s Dec 6 runoff and get to 51.  1) We need Sen Warnock as a progressive vote that prevents particularly Sen Manchin from being a spoiler.  Sen Warnock will support reproductive freedom legislation and Sen Manchin will not (with Republican control of the House so thin there is still some hope for something resembling progress on a few issues). 2) Next time in 2024 it will be extremely hard for Democrats to win control of the Senate because there are many vulnerable Democratic senators and few vulnerable Republican senators up for reelection.  Retaining Sen Warnock will be vital.  3) And Democrats could lose control of the Senate before 2024 if just one of the current Democratic Senators were to pass away or leave office, and their replacement was appointed by a Republican governor/ legislature.  4) With 51 senators Ds would control the committees and approve judicial appointments without R obstruction.
